About Us
David B. Allsop, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences at Northern Arizona University. He studies and educates couples on sexual well-being during times of transition and stress, such as the transition to parenthood, pregnancy loss, and infertility. His research focuses on relational dynamics (e.g., changes to couples’ health and sexuality) and risk and protective factors of sexual well-being, as well as on advancing statistical methods. He teaches courses on couples and sexual well-being and on structural equation modeling. David Allsop is from Mapleton, Utah. His academic studies began at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Family Life and Master of Science in Marriage, Family, and Human Development. He later received a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dr. Allsop is a Certified Family Life Educator and Certified Nonprofit Professional. He enjoys gaming, the outdoors, and sports. He lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, with his wife and three children.
I am doctoral student, researcher, and data analyst in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Northern Arizona University (NAU). My research examines the impact of psychological trauma on individuals and families, with a special focus on early childhood trauma exposure, the intergenerational transmission of trauma, and sexual victimization experiences. I also have years of experience conducting program evaluation with vulnerable populations, including trauma-exposed children and families, refugees, and individuals experiencing homelessness. I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley, worked for years as a clinical research coordinator at the University of California San Francisco, and earned her Master of Arts in Psychological Sciences at NAU where she is currently pursuing her PhD. In her spare time, Belén enjoys gaming, traveling, and taking long walks through Flagstaff’s trails.
I am currently a Psychological Sciences masters student at Northern Arizona University. I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Black Hills State University. During my time there, I realized my passion for research. I hope to continue to increase community knowledge of post pregnancy loss intimacy through my work in Dr. Allsop’s lab. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my horses, reading a good book, and finding new music.
I’m a second year master’s student in the Psychological Sciences program here at NAU. My thesis work revolves around parental stress and alcohol use among Latina mothers in the US. I am passionate about health equity and substance use research. In my free time, I love watching TV/movies, spending time with friends, and going to concerts!!
I am an undergraduate student at Northern Arizona University and extremely excited to work in Allsop Lab gaining valuable research experience. I am working towards getting my bachelor's degree in Psychological Sciences in Spring 2026. The areas of sexuality and health in Psychology highly interest me along with creating health promotion programs. With graduate school insights for the future, I hope to pursue more education around sexual well-being and sexual health research or clinical experience. Outside of the lab, I enjoy swimming, ceramics, and cooking.
Mariela is a Psychology major with a minor in Community Engagement graduating in 2026. With over three years of experience working in childcare and education, she has gained valuable insights into the developmental and social needs of diverse populations, especially children and young adults. Her work in these settings has fueled her interest in the intersection of psychology, community well-being, and systemic change. She is excited to explore these interests within the context of sexual wellness. In her free time she enjoys thrifting for records.
I am currently a junior at NAU, working towards my BS in psychology, with a minor in anthropology. I hope to continue into graduate school to further my education in psychology and to contribute meaningfully to the discipline through research experiences. I am interested in many different subjects in psychology, but I am particularly interested in social psychology as it relates to topics of sexuality, parenthood, and women’s issues. In my free time, I enjoy reading classic literature and trying new coffee recipes! I am very excited to be a part of Dr. Allsop’s research and I am confident that the findings can contribute positively to the understanding of sexual well-being societally
I am currently studying for a psychology degree with a philosophy minor at Northern Arizona University. I am in my senior year of my undergraduate degree. I hope to pursue higher education after graduating college to become a clinical psychologist. I decided to be a part of Dr. Allsop’s lab because my research interests in psychology are relationships, family dynamics, and development. Dr. Allsop’s sexual well-being lab nicely aligned with my interests. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, crocheting, sewing, rock collecting, and picnics!
I am a senior undergraduate student at Northern Arizona University, majoring in Psychological Sciences with minors in Sociology and Humanities. My academic interests include exploring demographic influences on diagnostic symptoms and clinical application. I am passionate about understanding the cultural and societal factors that intersect to affect mental health and hopes to contribute to this field of research as. Professor later in my career. I am excited to continue to contribute and develop more inclusive mental health practices. Outside of my academic pursuits, I love to paint, read, write, cook and bake.
I am a Junior at Northern Arizona University pursuing a major in Psychology with a Sociology minor. Moving forward into graduate school I want to go into a PsyD. for Clinical Pyschology. Even though my dreams are in clinical practice I have loved doing research. Dr. Allsop is a big motivator for me to move toward my goals and become the best version of myself. I love music, painting, and sketching even though it has nothing to do with Psychology!
I am a senior at Northern Arizona University, completing my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I plan on continuing my academic journey by pursuing a graduate degree and am passionate about expanding my knowledge while also contributing to the well-being of my community.As a new lab member I believe I offer a new perspective and am ecstatic to connect with my peers as well as gain hands-on experience with the goal of developing a better understanding of sexual well-being and how it contributes to individual as well as community health. Outside of the lab, I enjoy spending time with my cat, reading, and watching a good show or movie with my roommate.
I am a senior at Northern Arizona University pursuing a B.S. in Psychological Sciences with minors in Sociology, Disability Studies, and Advertising. While completing my undergrad, I have worked as a Community Assistant, Volunteer Therapeutic Mentor, and Peer Counselor, gaining valuable skills in trauma-informed care and resilience-building. I am excited to use what I have learned from these previous roles and explore my research interests in the SWIFT lab. These roles have deepened my passion for child and adolescent mental health and inspired my to pursue an Ed.S. in School Psychology. Outside of the lab, I enjoy traveling, volunteering, and exploring new coffee shops.
Hi! My name is Veronica. I am currently volunteering for the lab! My interest in research include addiction, grief, and working among Hispanic populations. My goal is to do counseling with individuals who are struggling with substance use, grief, and bereavement. In my free time I enjoy volunteering, reading, and going for hikes. I am super excited to be involved in the lab!
I am a sophomore at Northern Arizona University, pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in business. Although new to the lab environment, I bring a strong enthusiasm for learning and a passion for understanding human behavior. I am excited to gain hands-on experience in research and contribute to ongoing projects exploring loss outcomes and experiences. I am eager to collaborate with peers and mentors to understand the scientific process better. Outside the lab, I enjoy hiking, camping, concerts, and time with family and friends.
My name is Macquenzie Powell. I am a Psychology Major in my final semester for my Bachelor's degree. I am a Cancer, INFP-T with a dream to help those around me and make a lasting impact. I joined this lab after taking a special topics psychology course about Sexual Well-being and Healthy Couples taught by David Allsop. A reading assigned during that course, Intimacy and Desire by Dr. David Schnarch, changed my life and how I view relationships. When I am not in school, I enjoy participating in local theatre and hanging out with my cat, Ms. Missy Misc.
